SSU detains traitor who spied on Ukrainian air defence for promise of employment at FSB

As a result of a multi-stage special operation in Kirovohrad region, the SSU Counterintelligence detained another FSB agent who collected information on deployment of Ukrainian Defence Forces.

The spy is a native of Toretsk, Donetsk region, recruited by the russian special service before the full-scale invasion.

After 24 February 2022, he was instructed to arrive in Kirovohrad oblast as an IDP from eastern Ukraine and to conduct reconnaissance and sabotage activities there.

The agent moved to one of the settlements of the region and began collecting data on locations and bases of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Primarily, he tried to identify combat positions of Ukraine’s air defence systems and local Territorial Defence staffs.

To gather the data, the man got a job as a repairman at one of the military facilities.

For each completed assignment, occupiers promised their asset up to UAH 5,000 (USD 132) in cash.

As a reward, the FSB also promised to extract the agent to russia and give him a job in the russian special service.

However, these plans were thwarted by the SSU: the enemy informant’s criminal actions were documented, and he was detained red-handed when covertly photographing a facility of the AFU.

The SSU seized the suspect’s mobile phone, which he used to communicate with the FSB and record locations of Ukrainian defenders.

Occupiers needed the media files with coordinates and georeferencing to prepare new air strikes on the area.

Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators served the detained individual a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody, facing life imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing.

The SSU Office in Kirovohrad region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
