Lviv city: SBU completes pre-trial investigation into vehicle arson of Radio Svoboda journalist
SBU investigators finished the pre-trial investigation into the customer and organizer of vehicle arson in Lviv city. The car belonged to the journalist of Radio Svoboda Halyna Tereshchuk. Investigation materials have been filed to a court.
Allegedly, a police officer of Frankivsk Police Unit of the Main National Police Department in Lviv region was a mastermind. He acted on the instructions of a Lviv resident suspected of large-scale smuggling schemes. The police officer found a perpetrator, gave him money for the “work” and provided the necessary information about the vehicle. On the night of January 30, 2020, the arsonist set fire to the journalist's vehicle.
During the investigation, SBU officers established that the customer of the arson had repeatedly “cooperated” with the perpetrator to commit similar crimes.
Currently, the indictment against the offenders accused of organizing the arson to the journalist's vehicle due to her professional activities has been sent to the court. The criminal proceedings were initiated for organizing criminal offense upon prior conspiracy and willful destruction or impairment of property owned by journalist.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Lviv Region Prosecutor's Office.
