SSU detains FSB agents in Donetsk region, who ‘hunted’ for positions of Ukrainian Javelins
As a result of counter-sabotage operations in the frontline areas in the east of Ukraine, the SSU detained two russian agents.
The spies were collecting intelligence on deployment and movement of the Defence Forces of Ukraine near Bakhmut, Donetsk region.
The primary task of the agents was to identify positions of Ukrainian combat squads with Javelin anti-tank missile systems.
According to the investigation, the two detainees are residents of Donetsk region, who were recruited by the FSB after the full-scale invasion began. Following occupiers’ instructions, they conducted reconnaissance and sabotage near the front line.
The enemy accomplices contacted their russian supervisors through a network of ‘liaisons’ from the temporarily occupied territory. They were several militants of the invaders’ ‘1st army corps.’
‘Intermediaries’ passed information from the agents to a representative of the so-called ‘ministry of state security’ and the head of a reconnaissance unit of one of the groups of the ‘dnr’ terrorist organization, who then ‘reported’ to the FSB.
The spies also used secure electronic channels for communication and transmitted the GPS-coordinates with description of the targets.
The aggressor used the obtained data to prepare missile and artillery strikes on locations of Ukrainian troops.
Both detainees have been notified of suspicion. Court chose custody as a measure of restraint.
The SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
