SSU identifies detained russian serviceman as killer of civilian in Bucha (video)

The SSU continues exposing and documenting war crimes committed by russian occupation forces. As a result of investigation, the SSU has exposed another russian military serviceman, who murdered a civilian in Kyiv region during the temporary occupation.

In early March this year, together with other russian servicemen, he shot a car with a machine gun on the highway near Zdvizhivka village, Bucha district. The driver died on the spot.

To conceal the crime, the ruscist together with his comrades buried the victim’s body in the forest.

In September, the perpetrator was detained by the Ukrainian military during combat in Kherson region.

During the interrogation and other investigative actions, SSU investigators established and proved the detainee’s involvement in the crime and received information about the location of the deceased. The corpse was exhumed and submitted for forensic examination.

The investigation identified that the killer was a contractor of one of the units of the 331st parachute regiment of russia’s 98th airborne division. In 2019, he actively participated in hostilities in Syria.

At the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the contract serviceman was with the occupying group, which tried to capture Kyiv region.

In addition, in the course of the investigation, the SSU obtained additional information about numerous other crimes committed by this unit of russian army. This includes facts of enemy shelling of residential buildings of locals, robbing and killing civilians.

SSU investigators have notified the captured occupier of suspicion of violation of laws and customs of war (Article 438.2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The crime is punishable by life imprisonment.

The SSU Main Investigative Directorate is investigating the proceedings together with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
