On October 8, 2020, SBU investigators filed an indictment against former SBU officer, Major General Valerii Shaitanov, for committing treason, attempted terrorist act, and unlawful handling of weapons.

We recall that in April 2020, the SBU CI conducted a multi-stage special operation to expose Shaitanov's illegal activities, and gathered a comprehensive evidence of his cooperation with the Russian special services.

Valerii Shaitanov is suspected of committing of high treason, act of terrorism, unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosive.
