SSU exposes russian agents in penitentiary system in Ukraine’s southern regions
The SSU has exposed two russian agents: former and current high-ranking officials of the prison system in the south of Ukraine.
The informants passed to the enemy data on the employees of penitentiary institutions who did not betray their oath and remained loyal to Ukraine.
It was established that the ‘liaison’ was the ‘chief of the HR unit’ of the ‘department of the Federal Penitentiary Service in Kherson region’, illegally established by the occupiers. The former personnel officer of a correctional facility of Kherson region received this pseudo-position for voluntarily cooperating with the invaders.
He got the information requested by the enemy from an official of a regional unit of the State Criminal Enforcement Service of Ukraine. Knowing about her former colleague’s defection to the enemy, she still repeatedly passed to him restricted information.
This includes personal data of serving employees of the penitentiary service: their place of work, addresses of registration and actual residence.
This information was used by russians for intelligence and subversive activities against Ukraine, including for pressuring law enforcement officers and their relatives, their possible recruitment and obtaining sensitive information.
The SSU documented the fact that the perpetrator received money transfers from occupational authorities.
During the searches at the home and workplace of the official of the State Criminal Enforcement Service, investigators seized mobile phones with evidence of unlawful activity.
The traitor was notified in absentia of suspicion of treason under martial law and collaboration (Article 111.2 and Article 111-1.7 of the CCU). The official of the State Criminal Enforcement Service was notified of suspicion of treason under martial law (Article 111.2).
The SSU Office in Mykolaiv region has been working on the case together with the SBI investigators under the procedural supervision of Mykolaiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
