In Volyn region, the SBU seized almost 180 kg of illegally mined raw amber.

According to intelligence, residents of Zakarpattia region purchased “sun stone” from local illegal miners. After sorting and packaging, the offenders shipped amber to EU countries. As a result, law enforcement officers detained a buyer with a batch of “goods”. Allegedly, the minimum value of amber is estimated to UAH 500,000 (USD 17,858).

The seized “sun stone” was sent to further examination. The pre-trial investigation initiated upon the fact of illegal mining, selling, purchasing, transferring, shipping, transporting and processing of amber is ongoing.

The operation was carried out jointly with the Main Department of National Police in Volyn region under supervision of the Volyn Region Prosecutor’s Office.
