United States supports Ukraine in countering Russian aggression

During a meeting with SBU Head Ivan Bakanov, Chargé d'Affaires Kristina Kvien assured that the United States supports Ukraine's territorial integrity and is willing to assist in countering Russian aggression.

The meeting above all discussed general security situation and a potential threat of Russian military build-up on the borders with Ukraine.

"The United States affirms its support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and wants to cooperate with Ukraine and its partners to achieve peace," Kristina Kvien said.

Ivan Bakanov, in turn, emphasized the SBU willingness to join efforts with international partners for Ukraine’s successful response to military and hybrid threats from Russia.

"We are used to the constant Russian threat, because we have more than once witnessed its demonstration of force. Such a neighborhood is a grave risk that other European countries do not face. We do not just coexist for 7 years, but address it. Due to international partnership, Ukraine has additional opportunities to protect its own sovereignty, "Ivan Bakanov said.

He noted the importance of support for our state in counteraction to such a powerful enemy as Russia.

The meeting also discussed Ukrainian recent sanctions against a number of individuals and legal entities, prospects of the SBU reform.
