SBU neutralizes 600 cyberattacks and exposes 20 hacker groups in 2020

The SBU neutralized 600 cyberattacks and cyber incidents on government information resources and critical infrastructure facilities during 2020.

On the whole, attacks were the tools of hybrid aggression aimed to diminish the information security of Ukraine or spread harmful content.

In 2020, the SBU neutralized 20 groups involved in many cyberattacks, as well as blocked over 2,600 communities with 1 m. followers and 21 botnets with about 60,000 accounts.

Due to SBU cyber experts, 40 people were prosecuted for dissemination of anti-Ukrainian propaganda and 32 people have already been convicted.

158 foreigners involved in online propaganda of separatism were barred from entering Ukraine.

The SBU priority is counteraction to unauthorized interference with computers and automated networks. In particular, during a special operation the SBU exposed illegal scheme causing large-scale economic losses. It was organized by former managers of the State Tax Service. According to estimates, tax fraud and conversion centers caused UAH 35 billion (USD 1.2 billion) of state losses.

In addition to that, SBU cyber experts exposed six criminal groups that broke into database of the Ministry of Justice and entered invalid data into the state registers.
