SSU investigations lead to over 320 convictions for terrorism and infringement of statehood in 2021
The SSU works to prevent and expose crimes against national security. These efforts have led to 329 criminals involved in terrorism and infringement upon Ukraine’s territorial integrity convicted since the beginning of 2021.
Over this period, the SSU detained 17 individuals involved in international terrorist and religious extremist organizations. In addition to this, Ukraine extradited 45 foreigners engaged in terrorism-related activity to their countries of origin.
During a special operation, the Service dismantled an IAF, a 150-strong so-called private military company. The formation acted under the cover of security companies and NGOs.
According to findings, the group committed grave crimes, including the July 2019 shooting of a TV channel in Kyiv. Two organizers of the attack were notified of suspicion.
In April 2021, a leader of a terrorist group of the so-called LNR was detained in Dnipropetrovsk region. His subordinates were involved in the killing of an SSU officer. The militants took part in shelling the ATO forces and blowing up a bridge in Luhansk region.
The SSU thwarted terrorist attacks and subversive actions in a border region and in the JFO area.
In Zakarpattia region, the SSU averted an arson of a Consulate General of a neighboring country and a murder of a local public figure.
The perpetrators attempted to commit terrorist attacks to destabilize social and political situation in the region and discredit Ukraine on the international arena.
The SSU identified the organizer, who was a native of Luhansk region recruited by Russian special services to conduct reconnaissance and subversion in Ukraine.
In Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the SSU exposed two large arms caches of subversive groups of LNR and DNR IAFs.
The seized inventory included almost 40 kg of TNT, an arsenal of anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, as well as ammunition for large-caliber machine guns and anti-aircraft weapons.
