In 2022, SSU acts to arrest 14 more aircraft illegally flying to Crimea

The SSU efforts have led to arrest of 14 passenger planes belonging to the Russian carrier Gazprom Avia.

These planes violated the procedure of entering and leaving the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine - the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Thus, they acted contrary to the rules of international flights and illegally transported people across the state border of Ukraine.

The arrest was imposed within the criminal proceedings opened under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • 111.1 (treason);
  • 332.2, 332.3 (illegal transportation of people across the state border of Ukraine);
  • 332-1.2 (violation of procedure of entering and leaving the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine);
  • 334 (violation of international flight rules).

The pre-trial investigation established that currently 37 Russian airlines operate regular flights to the annexed peninsula in violation of Ukrainian law.

The arrest and further investigation will make it possible to restrict the flights of the aircraft of these airlines, including to European countries.

To remind, the SSU efforts have led to arrest of 263 Russian aircraft carrying out regular passenger air transportation to the temporarily occupied peninsula in violation of international flight rules and Ukrainian legislation.
