The SBU exposed embezzlement of regional funds allocated for construction of medical facilities.

Allegedly, in 2019 officials of the Cherkasy Regional State Administration concluded an agreement with businessmen. According to the signed documents, contractors were obliged to construct a regional ambulance control room. The local government allocated more than UAH 45 million (USD 1.6 million) for that purpose.

The investigation established that the businessmen overestimated scope of works and its price in relevant construction statements. Illegal profits were transferred into non-observed economy.

The scam caused budget losses totaling almost UAH 1 million (USD 35,200).

At present, the SBU investigators in Cherkasy region served the CEO a notice of suspicion for embezzlement and forgery in office. The Court is to decide terms of his detention.

The investigation is ongoing. SBU officers are checking possible involvement of other officials in fraud.

The operation was conducted under legal supervision of the Cherkasy Region Prosecutor’s Office.
