The SBU cyber ​​specialists blocked sale of citizens’ personal data at the hacker forum on the eve of the local elections.

The SBU officers found that on a specialized hacker forum the offender offered to sell a database, which coincides with the information stored in State Register of Voters. Data indicating the place of residence and polling station numbers are in great demand in the Darknet on the eve of local elections. Such information can be used to influence the electoral preferences of voters.

The SBU operatives identified the perpetrator and conducted a set of investigative actions. The law enforcement seized computer and communications equipment with evidence of illegal activities.

Currently, all the circumstances of the crime and the list of “clients” who have purchased personal data of voters are being established. The issue of serving the offender a notice of suspicion of unauthorized sale or dissemination of information with limited access, which is stored in computers, automated systems, computer networks or on media of such information is being settled.
