The operatives of the SBU Main Department of Internal Security jointly with the State Bureau of Investigation exposed the operative of the SBU Office in Kharkiv region on extortion.

Allegedly, the offender organized a criminal group that specialized in extortion with the use of harassment and violence.

It was established that in the spring of 2019, in city of Kharkiv, the members of the group twice ambushed people who bought drugs via caches. After the drug addicts took the “goods”, the offenders beat the victims, threatened them with harassment, criminal liability, and offered to pay off. The victims were forced to sign alleged debts in the amount of UAH 100,000 (USD 3,500) and 57,000 (USD 2000).

Currently, the SBU officer was served a notice of suspicion of extortion. A type of detention is being chosen.

The operation was conducted jointly with the investigators of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation, located in Poltava, under supervision of the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Kharkiv garrison.
