In the city of Kharkiv, a memorial plaque to the SBU officer Dmytro Kaplunov was installed on the facade of the school № 153.

In 2019, while performing a combat mission in the JFO area, he was heavily wounded and died on the spot.

Representatives of local authorities, the head of the SBU CSO "A", Colonel Serhiy Dusyk, teachers and students of the school, the Hero's family, colleagues and friends observed a minute of silence in his memory.

Colonel Dmytro Kaplunov, an officer of the Special Operations Center "A", took an active part in the ATO operation in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts since the beginning. As part of consolidated operational and combat groups, he selflessly defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, participated in operations to seize armed criminals, to counter reconnaissance and sabotage groups of militants who tried to cross the frontline and carry out subversive activities.

On December 1, 2019, on the line of contact in eastern Ukraine, Dmytro Kaplunov and his comrade-in-arms Denys Volochaiev performed a combat mission as part of a group. The officers were killed in action by mine explosion.

Dmytro Kaplunov was awarded state awards: the Order "For Courage" of the III degree, the medal "Defender of the Motherland", the award of the President of Ukraine "For participation in the Anti-terrorist operation".

By Decree of the President of Ukraine № 877/2019 of 03.12.2019 for heroism and personal courage shown in defense of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, selfless service to the Ukrainian people, Colonel Kaplunov Dmytro Vitaliyovych, and his comrade-in-arms Volochaiev Denys Oleksandrovych were awarded the Order of the Golden Star (posthumously).

The memorial plaque was installed with the assistance of the NGO "Ukrainian Federation of High-Precision Shooting" and the Sports Shooting Club "Alpha Bravo".
