SBU documented illegal activities of an organized group attemting to create a fake city council of Khmelnytskyi City to undermine the social and political situation in the region.

Allegedly, the group of over 10 members held a meeting, where they created the so-called “local self-government body “Khmelnytskyi City Council” of the Republic of Ukraine”. They elected the “head’’ and “deputies’’ of the pseudo-formation and announced the liquidation of Khmelnytskyi City Council. The suspects also developed and signed the foundation documents of the fake organization to legitimize it.

Reportedly, the organizer of the group used social media to disseminate appeals to join the “newly formed city council” to do “real" local self-government business.

During a number of searches of the suspects’ residences and offices where the fake constituent assembly was held, the law enforcement officers found documents proving the illegal activity.

Within the criminal proceedings initiated upon the actions aimed at forcible change or overthrow of the constitutional order or the seizure of state power, the pre-trial investigation is ongoing to prosecute all the persons involved into the illegal activities.
