Kramatorsk city: SBU detains corrupt SBU officer

The SBU Main Department of Internal Security detained an SBU employee in Kramatorsk city for extortion.

Allegedly, the investigator of the SBU Main Directorate in Donetsk and Luhansk regions demanded USD 30,000 from a foreigner suspected of criminal proceedings. For this, the offender promised to change the qualification of the offense, as well as to facilitate the conclusion of a plea bargain, and to return the confiscated property.

SBU operatives detained the investigator in his residence. He received a suspicion notice of extorting or receiving illegal gain on a particularly large scale by an official or by prior conspiracy of a group of persons.  Further, law enforcement officers conducted searches at the offender’s office and residence.

Currently, a petition about choosing the custody as type of detention and removing him from the office has been filed to the court.

The operation was carried out jointly with the Main Investigation Department of the State Bureau of Investigation under the procedural supervision of the General Inspectorate of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
