Kyiv city: SBU detains corrupt prosecutor and chief police inspector

In Kyiv, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a local prosecutor and a chief inspector of the National Police on bribe extortion.

SBU officers found that a special inspector of the National Police Operations Support Department together with the local prosecutor demanded USD 10,000 from a local resident. For this sum of money, the accomplices promised the man to remove an attachment from his property.

The operatives of the special service documented receival of the first part of the bribe by the police officer. Later, he was detained while receiving the second part of the illegal gain. During searches of the suspects’ office, the law enforcement seized proceedings on victim’s attachment of property and money from the first tranche. Additionally, the law enforcement seized over USD 2,000, the origin of which the prosecutor could not explain.

Consequently, SBU officers detained the offenders under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The issue of serving the detainees a suspicion notice upon the fact of taking a bribe in especially gross amount is being resolved.

Investigations are ongoing.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Main Department for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime jointly with the State Bureau of Investigation under the supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office.
