Mykolaiv city: SBU blocks large-scale misappropriation of diesel fuel in Ukrzaliznytsia (video)

In the city of Mykolaiv, the SBU detained officials of Ukrzaliznytsia. Every month, the offenders drained 100-150 tons of diesel fuel from locomotives for further sale. The damages to Ukrzaliznytsia JSC amounted to USD 50,000 per month. The lack of fuel could have led to disruptions of rail transportation.

SBU employees documented illegal activities of depot employees. The officials, by prior conspiracy with criminal circles, set up a scheme to appropriate fuel products from the state company. They sold diesel fuel via affiliated gas stations.

Allegedly, the group has been operating since December 2020.

The law enforcement jointly with the SBU Center of Special Operations “A” detained seven group members, including three Ukrzaliznytsia officials and four members of criminal circles. During the searches, SBU officers seized stolen fuel worth over UAH 1.7 m (USD 60,715).

The investigation is ongoing upon misappropriation or conversion of property by malversation. The issue of serving the group members suspicion notices is being settled.

The operation was carried out by the SBU Office in Mykolaiv region, with the assistance of the Office of the director for economic and information security at Ukrzaliznytsia under the supervision of the Mykolaiv Region Prosecutor's Office.
