Mykolaiv region: SBU detains group of counterfeiters
In the city of Mykolaiv, the SBU detained organizers of the group involved in systematic manufacturing and selling counterfeit USD 100 banknotes. The suspects were selling the banknotes via personal contacts.
Allegedly, the group operated for a year. The production of counterfeit banknotes amounted up to USD 100,000 per month.
The SBU documented that the offenders produced almost 20,000 counterfeit US dollars. As a result, they were detained under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Within the criminal proceedings, law enforcement officers seized a cliché used for manufacturing counterfeit banknotes. During the searches, SBU officers found a foreign-made gun, forged Ukrainian passports, bank cards used in the fraud and other evidence of illegal business.
The counterfeiters were served suspicion notices of manufacture and sale of counterfeit money.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
Measures to expose illicit activities were carried out under the supervision of Mykolaiv Region Prosecutor's office.
