Odesa city: SBU seizes 750 kilos of psychotropic substances used by ISIS terrorists (video)

In Odesa city, the SBU blocked transiting of 750 kilos of captagon, known as “ISIS drug”. The “black market” cost of the seized goods  tops USD 30 million.

During the special operation, the SBU officers established that two residents of Odesa and Lviv cities organized such smuggling. They ordered the psychotropic substance in a Mediterranean country. The SBU documented that in early September the goods arrived at the Pivdennyi Sea Port. It was hidden in a container with sweets. SBU operatives controlled all the actions of the offenders.

Then the dealers moved the cargo to the warehouse. In order to smuggle captagon to a Persian Gulf country, they bought a batch of corn flour, in which they hid packages with psychotropic substance. The offenders delivered two containers with drugs to the Odesa Sea Port.

After declaring the cargo in customs, the SBU officers detained the suspects: one on attempt to fly away from Odesa city, the other- at his residence. Law enforcement officers seized containers with captagon.

The issue of serving notices of suspicion to both suspects is being settled within the criminal proceedings initiated for smuggling of narcotics, psychotropic substances, their analogues or precursors.

The investigation to identify all persons involved in cross-border drug smuggling is ongoing.

The operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Odesa Region Prosecutor's Office.

The operation was conducted jointly with Transcarpathian Customs of the State Customs Service and the State Border Guard Service under the supervision of Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor's Office.
