Improving professional education is important for SSU staffing after reform - security experts
Improving professional education and research capabilities in the context of the SSU reform is an important element for high-quality staffing of the Service. This was discussed during the workshop The SSU Reform: Expert View on its Perspectives and Problems organized by the Juridical Personnel Training Institute for the SSU of the Yaroslav the Wise National Law University and the OSCE.
The participants discussed the reform of the SSU and the necessary amendments to criminal and administrative legislation, considering current challenges that fall within the SSU remit.
Overall, the experts supported the need for reform and focused on some aspects: the SSU’s participation in combating organized crime, use of project approaches in the management of operational activities, staff reduction and attestation of employees, their social protection.
According to experts, it is necessary to retain oversight of the employees’ integrity, develop anti-corruption and gender standards etc.
All of these areas, as well as professional education, should be modernized basing on the experience of other states.
The speakers at the event were the representatives of the Interdepartmental Research Center for Combating Organized Crime at the NSDC, the Security Service, the MoI, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the National Agency for Prevention of Corruption, Ukrainian National Bar Association, the judiciary, as well as researchers from Yaroslav the Wise National Law University, and other educational establishments.
