SBU Military CI regularly exposes foreign intelligence agents, defectors and terrorists
In 2020, the SBU Military CI exposed 3 spies, 15 enemy agents, 40 members of IAF, and prevented terrorist attacks in the Joint Forces operation area.
Due to the SBU investigations, the court passed 47 judgements, including 4 individuals convicted of high treason.
During a special operation in June 2020, CI officers detained a terrorist trying to explode the Sievierodonetsk military hospital and the Rubizhne railway station.
The offender received a suspicion notice and is detained on terrorism charges. The investigation is ongoing.
SBU officers also documented 132 cases of illicit trafficking of weapons, and found 4 caches with ammunition.
The seized inventory included 4 portable anti-aircraft missile systems, 11 guided missiles, more than 120 anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade launchers, almost 3,000 grenades, over 540,000 shells, mines, rounds and ammunition for small arms.
From a cache arranged in the abandoned building of on of Mariupol enterprises, the SBU seized almost one hundred RGN, F-1 grenades with fuses, and a large number of shells and rounds of different caliber.
As a result, 9 court sentences against illegal circulation of firearms entered into force.
During 2020, the SBU Military CI exposed 73 attempted thefts of defense secrets by foreigners.
269 officials were prosecuted for violation of state secrets protection.
The SBU prevented more than UAH 9 billion (USD 324 million) of state losses. In particular, military CI officers prevented misappropriation of land plots belong to Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. The total area was more than 26,000 hectares and cost over UAH 8 billion (USD 288 million).
SBU officers also exposed a resident of Kyiv extorting USD 60,000 for "assisting" in appointment to a leading position in the Ministry of Defense. The law enforcement detained the offender on receiving the first part of the bribe.
In December 2020, the military CI prevented sale of portable multifunction radio stations stolen from a military unit in Lviv region. The offender planned to receive USD 50,000 for 5 devices.
