SSU neutralized 4,000 cyberattacks on government and critical infrastructure since January 2023

The SSU cyber units are systemically countering the enemy’s information and subversive activity. Since the beginning of this year, almost 4,000 cyberattacks on electronic systems of Ukraine’s central authorities and critical infrastructure have been neutralized.

This was emphasized during a workshop held by the SSU Cyber Department for employees responsible for information security in government agencies and strategic facilities of Ukraine. The event was attended by over 70 representatives of various entities.

During the seminar, the SSU conducted a training on enhancing Ukraine’s cybersecurity and shared best practices in responding to cyber threats, including the use of security information and event management systems (SIEM), endpoint detection and response (EDR) and email services.

Addressing the attendees, SSU experts pointed out that the majority of enemy cyberattacks are aimed at gaining unauthorized access to the electronic document flow of government agencies and technological infrastructure systems.

Usually, such ‘entry points’ for russian hackers are publicly available services, primarily e-mail.

During the workshop, participants worked out algorithms for joint actions to respond to and minimize negative consequences of such cyberattacks.

To strengthen interagency cooperation, the SSU connected the electronic systems of over 1,700 representatives of government agencies and strategically important facilities to the MISP-UA cyber incident information exchange platform.

The activities were held within the Cybersecurity Month and will significantly enhance the protection level of the state’s automated systems against russian cyberattacks amid the ongoing war.
