At SSU’s initiative, military protective clothing worth UAH 8 mln handed over to Ukrainian defenders
The SSU has prevented a commercial sale of military protective gear intended for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Now this clothing and equipment worth UAH 8 mln (USD 206,000) will be handed over to Ukrainian military.
It includes:
- over 500 items of military clothing and uniform: army boots, buffs, balaclavas, hats, camouflage suits and chemical protection suits, a batch of plate carriers, etc.;
- 5,500 armour plates for bullet proof vests.
This gear was seized earlier by the SSU in special operations in Cherkasy region.
In June, the SSU exposed a dealer in Cherkasy region who appropriated and was selling military protective clothing intended for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The SSU also exposed one of the enterprises in the region on an attempt to appropriate steel for manufacturing body armour.
The group imported to Ukraine, under the guise of humanitarian aid, material for armour plates worth UAH 6 mln (USD 155,000). However, when 5,500 armour plates were manufactured, they were not handed over to Ukrainian Armed Forces, as the status of humanitarian cargo implies, but were put up for sale.
Due to joint efforts of the law enforcement and Cherkasy Region Military Administration, it was possible to prevent the illegal sale of this batch. The plates have been handed over to Ukrainian defenders.
The SSU Office in Cherkasy region carried out the operations together with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Cherkasy District Prosecutor’s Office and Uman District Prosecutor’s Office.
