Following SSU’s investigation, mole who worked for russian intelligence sentenced to 14.5 years in prison

The SSU continues to cleanse itself from traitors and acts comprehensively to bring them to justice.

Following the SSU’s investigation, the court sentenced a former SSU employee, who conducted intelligence and subversive activities for russia, to 14.5 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

As the SSU Head Vasyl Maliuk highlighted earlier, cleansing the Service of traitors and destructive elements is among the key priorities today. ‘We follow the course of self-cleansing and are not going to stop. The SSU is not a place for the kremlin’s agents or people who don’t believe in Ukraine’s Victory. If someone betrays their oath to Ukraine, they must be held accountable in line with the law,’ Vasyl Maliuk emphasized.

According to the investigation, the spy was an employee of one of the SSU’s regional offices.

Three months before the full-scale invasion, the man contacted russian intelligence at his own initiative and offered cooperation in exchange for money.

On the aggressor’s instructions, the traitor covertly collected personal data of his colleagues and their relatives and after February 24 began reconnaissance of locations of the Defence Forces units in Kirovohrad region.

Primarily, the agent was trying to identify possible bases of Ukrainian combat aircraft.

The enemy informant planned to pass the collected intelligence to his russian supervisor through secure electronic communication channels.

However, the SSU exposed the mole, documented his criminal activity and detained him in late February last year in Kropyvnytskyi.

Based on the evidence collected, the court found the accused guilty under the Article 111.1 of the CCU (high treason).

The SSU carried out the investigation under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
