SSU CI investigation leads to conviction of former employee of Ukrainian special service who defected to DNR terrorists
The SSU is working systematically to expose members of illegal armed formations, detain and bring them to justice for crimes against Ukraine’s state security.
Following the investigation of the SSU Counterintelligence, Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Chernivtsi sentenced in absentia a member of DNR terrorist organization to 10 years in prison.
The verdict concerns a native of Donetsk, who in July 2014 voluntarily joined the illegal armed formation Makeyevka Department of the Ministry of State Security of DNR.
The individual is a former employee of the Security Service of Ukraine, has had special education, physical, military and operational training.
The offender carried out subversive activity against the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the SSU and other formations involved in the ATO and JFO in Donetsk region.
The terrorist was also looking for new employees for the so-called Ministry of State Security of DNR and recruiting civilians to gather information about the ATO and JFO.
One of the convict’s lines of ‘work’ was persecution of locals for alleged assistance to law enforcement and other state bodies of Ukraine.
The court found the accused guilty of a crime under Article 258-3.1 of the CCU (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization) and sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
Currently, the convict is hiding from justice in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk region, he is a wanted criminal.
