Following SSU’s investigation, russian general and colonel, who ordered North Crimean Canal blow-up, sentenced to 12 years in prison
The SSU has collected evidence against two russian commanders involved in the destruction of key life support facilities in Kherson region.
These are the deputy commander of russia’s Black Sea fleet for logistics, major general Mikhail Yasnikov, and the commander of the 11th separate engineer brigade, colonel Dmitry Markov.
Both officials directly commanded the seizure of Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant and the blowing up of the North Crimean Canal facilities.
According to the investigation, it was Yasnikov who ordered the illegal seizure of critical infrastructure facilities, and Markov who supervised the explosions.
The occupiers’ criminal actions disrupted the region’s water supply and functioning of irrigation system, as well as caused significant environmental damage and material damage to Ukraine on a particularly large scale.
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court found both commanders guilty under Articles 28.2, 438.1 of the CCU (violation of laws and customs of war) and sentenced them to 12 years in prison.
Comprehensive efforts are underway to bring the convicts to justice for crimes against Ukraine.
The investigation was carried out under the supervision of Kherson Region Prosecutor’s Office.
