FSB spy sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment for posing as journalist in Kharkiv and Donetsk regions
The SSU evidence base served as a ground for 12 years of imprisonment of an FSB agent network, operating in Kharkiv and Donetsk regions. A spy implied a journalist ID so as to gather intelligence on the Defence Forces as well as adjust the aggressor's air strikes by region.
The SSU CI detained the malefactor and three more accomplices as an outcome of the special operation in March this year on the frontline territory in eastern Ukraine.
On the grounds of the SSU evidence, a court sentenced the russian agent to 12 years of imprisonment.
The investigation has established the traitor to be a local resident of Druzhkivka, Donetsk region, who worked in the editorial office of a local newspaper.
Yet, even prior to the full-scale invasion, the malefactor was drafting pro-russian materials for one of the Kremlin's mouthpieces, namely the Rossiya Segodnya media group.
As such, the man caught the eye of the russian special services, which involved him in covert cooperation via the Honorary Consul of the rf in Kharkiv at the time.
After being recruited, the russian agent arrived at his "supervisor's" place in the territory of the aggressor country and took a "special course" in reconnaissance and subversion.
Then, he was operating as a sleeper cell, yet in February 24, 2022 embarked on carrying out hostile operations.
The key missions entailed the intelligence collection on the time and number of military convoy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces moving towards the front line.
Besides, the spy spotted the results of enemy shelling of Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka and Kostiantynivka. After that, he sent the relevant "reports" to the aggressor to adjust the fire on Ukrainian cities.
At the same time, the spy also reconnoitered the locations of firing positions, fortifications, and ammunition depots of Ukrainian troops.
The anonymous chats in the messenger was used to be in touch with the occupiers.
Based on the evidence collected, the court found the offender guilty under Part 3 Article 28, Part 7 Article 111-1 of the CCU (collaboration).
Investigative actions are ongoing to bring to justice all members of the agent network.
The investigation was carried out under the supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
