Following SSU investigation, FSB agent who guided russian Kh-59 missiles at Chernihiv sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU Military Counterintelligence and investigators, another agent of russia’s federal security service, who operated in Chernihiv region, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The perpetrator adjusted the aggressor’s air strikes on the northern oblast of Ukraine, including attacks with Kh-59 missiles.
The enemy’s main targets were the Defence Forces’ bases in the city and its suburbs.
To obtain the coordinates for the strikes, the FSB remotely recruited an employee of a local plant who was looking for ‘easy money’ on Telegram channels.
The agent walked around the target area and covertly took pictures of potential sites and marked their geolocations on Google maps.
The collected intelligence was sent via a messenger app to his russian handler using a specially created FSB Telegram bot.
The SSU Military Counterintelligence identified the traitor at an early stage and took action to protect the positions of the Defence Forces and document the unlawful activity.
At the final stage of the special operation, the agent was detained at his home in Chernihiv.
During the search, the SSU seized a mobile phone and a tablet with evidence of the crimes, as well as a combat grenade and ammunition for firearms.
Based on the Service’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under three Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 113.2 (sabotage, committed under martial law);
- 263.1 (illegal handling of weapons and ammunition).
The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of Chernihiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
