Following SSU investigation, FSB agent, who spied in Bukovyna under courier’s cover, sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on the SSU’s investigation, an agent of russia’s federal security service who was preparing coordinates for missile and drone strikes on Chernivtsi region has been convicted to prison.
Among the enemy’s potential targets were railway junction stations and medical facilities where Ukrainian soldiers undergo treatment and rehabilitation.
To adjust the attack, the russian service remotely recruited a 49-year-old local resident who worked in a delivery service.
Acting under the cover of a courier, the man drove around the area on his scooter and recorded military and critical infrastructure facilities.
The SSU documented his criminal actions and apprehended him in the summer of 2024, when he was preparing his ‘report’ for the FSB.
According to the investigation, the traitor came to the attention of the occupiers because of his pro-kremlin views, which he shared with his russian acquaintances who collaborated with the FSB.
The individual also repeatedly demonstrated his anti-Ukrainian position in russian video chats.
Subsequently, he was led to an FSB handler, with whom he maintained communication via a messenger app.
After the SSU’s investigation, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 436-2.1 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
The sentence is 15 years in prison.
The operation and investigation were carried out by the SSU Office in Chernivtsi region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
