Following SSU’s investigation, enemy agent sentenced to 15 years in prison for ‘hunting’ for military airfields and training grounds in Odesa oblast

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, another russian agent, who collected intelligence on locations and movements of the Defence Forces in Odesa oblast, received a real prison term.

His primary task was to identify and pass to the occupiers accurate coordinates of possible locations of military airfields and training centres of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

He also ‘paid attention’ to the sites with large concentrations of personnel and military equipment of Ukrainian defenders in different districts of the region.

In case of receiving the data, the invaders intended to use them to plan new and adjust repeated air attacks on Odesa region with missiles and Shahed-type kamikaze drones.

However, the SSU was proactive – the spy was detained in August 2022, and his actions were documented. This thwarted the enemy’s plans to prepare a series of air strikes on targets in the area.

Following the SSU’s investigation, the court sentenced the perpetrator to 15 years in prison.

According to the investigation, the enemy agent was an employee of a local hospital who had pro-kremlin views and regularly published them on russian Telegram channels.

In this way, he came to the occupiers’ attention, who recruited him in the summer of 2022 through a popular messenger app.

To gather intelligence, the traitor drove in the region and secretly recorded locations of Ukrainian troops’ bases or routes.

He passed the data to the aggressor in the form of markings on electronic maps with detailed descriptions, including an estimated number of personnel and equipment of the Defence Forces.

Based on the evidence, the court found the aggressor’s agent guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law) and sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Odesa region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
