Following SSU’s investigation, GRU agent who acted under cover of Dnipro volunteer foundation sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, another member of an intelligence network of russia’s GRU (the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces) received a real prison term.
The SSU detained the offender this summer as a result of a multi-stage special operation in Dnipro.
According to the investigation, after his accomplices had been exposed earlier this year, the spy briefly laid low. But later, he switched to a backup communication channel with his russian handler and continued to fulfil assignments.
He used his status as a co-founder of a local volunteer foundation to disguise his reconnaissance and subversive activities.
Under this cover, the enemy informant collected intelligence on Ukrainian defenders in the city.
Primarily, he was interested in information on types and approximate number of the AFU’s weapons, transported by rail to the front line.
To do this, the agent observed the movement of Ukrainian military echelons from the office of a volunteer organization located near the tracks.
The data were transmitted to the russian military intelligence via anonymous messengers.
During the searches, the SSU found a mobile phone used by the suspect to communicate to the GRU.
The court found him guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
Given his cooperation with the investigation, the traitor was able to avoid life imprisonment - the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor’s office.
