Following SSU’s investigation, militant of russian assault regiment, taken prisoner near Bakhmut, sentenced to 15 years in prison
After the SSU’s investigation, the court has convicted another traitor to imprisonment. The militant joined russia’s occupation groupings and fought against Ukraine’s Defence Forces on the eastern front.
Ukrainian defenders captured him during the counteroffensive near Bakhmut in July this year.
According to the investigation, this is a 50-year-old native of a temporarily occupied village in Luhansk oblast.
Just before russia’s full-scale invasion, he voluntarily joined the occupation ‘LNR’s 208th rifle regiment’ of the Southern military district of the russian armed forces.
Under russian instructors’ guidance, he received tactical training, including on assault operations in urban areas.
After ‘courses’ at a shooting range, the enemy ‘soldier’ equipped ruscists’ fortifications and firing positions near Shchastia, Luhansk oblast.
With his unit, the ‘serviceman’ was then transferred to Bakhmut area to deter Ukraine’s counteroffensive.
Based on the evidence, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison, having found the accused guilty under three Articles of the CCU:
- 111.1, 111.2 (high treason);
- 258-3.1 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization);
- 260.2 (participation in the activities of unlawful armed groups).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Lviv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
