Following SSU investigation, associate professor sentenced to 15 years in prison for working for russian GRU and adjusting strikes on Kharkiv

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’) has received a prison term.

He was spying on Ukraine’s Defense Forces and adjusting enemy missile and bomb attacks on Kharkiv.

According to the investigation, the perpetrator is a 50-year-old associate professor at a local university, remotely recruited by the occupiers after the start of the full-scale war.

His main task was to record the consequences of enemy hits to prepare new and adjust repeated attacks.

The individual also monitored the routes of movement of Ukrainian troops and locations of AFU ammunition depots.

The obtained intelligence was transmitted via a messenger app to his handler as texts and marks on Google maps.

The SSU Counterintelligence apprehended the enemy asset in late 2023 at his apartment in Kharkiv.

Based on the evidence, the court found him guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The traitor was convicted to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The investigation was conducted by the SSU Kharkiv Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
