Following SSU’s investigation, ex-head of russian torture chamber Izolyatsia sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, Denys Kulikovskyi, a former head of the illegal prison Izolyatsia, set up by russian occupiers in the temporarily occupied Donetsk, has been convicted to prison.
According to the investigation, Kulikovskyi organized and personally participated in numerous murders and tortures of abducted Ukrainians in the east of our country.
His victims include local members of the resistance movement against the russian invaders.
The SSU Counterintelligence detained the suspect in early November 2021 as a result of a special operation in Kyiv, where he was hiding from justice in rented apartments.
Following the SSU’s investigation, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of all property.
The SSU established that the perpetrator had a call sign ‘Palych’. From October 2014 to February 2018, he organized illegal detention of more than 20 victims.
Prior to that, people were abducted from the city streets or from their own homes by representatives of the occupation ‘ministry of state security’, controlled and coordinated by russia’s FSB.
In the jail, the captives were subjected to severe torture, including mock executions, electric shocks, and prolonged deprivation of food and water.
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court found Kulikovsky guilty under several Articles of the CCU:
- 258-3.1 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization);
- 260.1 (participation in unlawful paramilitary or armed groups);
- 28.1 (commission of an offence by a group of persons, upon prior conspiracy, by an organized group or criminal organization);
- 438.1 (violation of laws and customs of war).
The investigation was conducted under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office and the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
