SSU materials help to sentence to 15 years in prison an official for leaking geolocation of the AFU
Owing to the SSU evidence base, an agent of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the russian Armed Forces (known as GRU), who was detained in April 2022 in Dnipro, received a real prison term.
He turned out to be a technical specialist of one of the leading mobile operators in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion, the official had been reconnoitering the locations of the Armed Forces headquarters and air defense complexes in the regional center.
He also tried to track down possible railroad routes for transporting Ukrainian military equipment to the eastern front.
At the same time, the agent collected information on the consequences of russian air attacks on urban infrastructure to re-adjust enemy strikes.
He transmitted the information to the occupiers through a specialized chatbot of the aggressor country's military intelligence in the form of media files with marks of Ukrainian objects on an electronic map.
In the course of counter-sabotage measures, SSU officers established the offender's whereabouts and detained him in his apartment as he was preparing for a new "session" of communication with the russian game.
Based on the SSU materials, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
The investigation established that an employee of a mobile company in Dnipro was remotely recruited by a russian GRU employee at the end of February 2022.
The occupiers engaged the Dnipro resident in covert cooperation through their own chatbot, where they collected intelligence on the location and movement of the Defense Forces.
During the searches, the SSU found a cell phone used for reconnaissance and subversive activities against Ukraine.
Based on the collected evidence, the court found the offender guilty under Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).
The investigation was conducted by SSU officers in Dnipro region under the supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office.
