Following SSU’s investigation, former MP from ‘Opposition Platform – For Life’, who fled Ukraine before full-scale invasion, faces 15 years in prison
The SSU, together with the SBI, have collected evidence against Oleh Voloshyn, former member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the IX convocation.
During 2020-2021, he actively assisted russia’s top military and political leadership in conducting large-scale subversive activities against Ukraine.
Based on the evidence collected, an indictment was sent to court charging Voloshyn under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.1 (high treason);
- 125.1 (infliction of intentional light bodily harm).
According to the SSU Counterintelligence, Voloshyn deliberately tried to manipulate the public opinion of Ukrainian citizens for the benefit of the aggressor state.
Being a member of the banned Opposition Platform – For Life party, he publicly disseminated the kremlin’s narratives on the socio-political situation in Ukraine.
In his numerous social media posts and TV appearances, Voloshyn attempted to discredit Ukraine in the international arena.
He also publicly justified the creation and the activities of the terrorist organizations ‘L/DNR’.
In addition to the described unlawful actions, the law enforcement agencies documented that Voloshyn had caused intentional bodily harm to a citizen.
On the eve of the full-scale invasion, the suspect left Ukraine for russia, where he is currently hiding from justice.
Prosecutors will request a special court trial in order to bring the offender to justice for crimes against Ukraine.
Voloshyn is facing up to 15 years in prison.
The investigation was carried out under the supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
