Following SSU’s investigation, another 3 militants of russia-backed ‘DNR’ convicted to 15 years in prison

Basing on the evidence collected by SSU investigators, the court found another three militants of the terrorist organization DNR guilty of treason and sentenced them to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

All of them were members of the illegal armed formation - the so-called ‘4th separate motorized rifle battalion of the 119th DNR regiment’. They were captured in late March, during the liberation of Sumy region.

According to the investigation, on February 24, 2022, the individuals in question, despite having no military profession, voluntarily joined the militants, received military uniforms, weapons and ammunition.

In early March, russian armed forces sent them to a short-term military training in Belhorod region, russia. After that, they were deployed to Sumy direction.

It has been established that the occupiers used the traitors for:

  • setting up and fortifying combat positions and checkpoints in the temporarily occupied territories;
  • ensuring traffic control and security at checkpoints and enemy positions.

The evidence base collected by the SSU led to the court’s verdict sentencing them to real terms of imprisonment. The proceedings were opened under two articles of the CCU:

  • 260.2 (creation of unlawful armed formations or participation in their activities);
  • 111.2 (treason committed under martial law).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Poltava region under the procedural supervision of Poltava Region Prosecutor’s Office.
