Following SSU’s investigation, court sentences activated GRU agent to 15 years in prison
The SSU has collected irrefutable evidence proving the guilt of another agent of the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (better known as GRU).
The spy gathered intelligence on locations and movements of the Defence Forces in Vinnytsia oblast.
The individual also passed to the aggressor coordinates of local authorities, energy facilities and social institutions, including boarding schools.
Using his data, occupiers planned to carry out a series of targeted missile strikes on the region.
However, the SSU timely exposed and detained the enemy accomplice as a result of a special operation in November 2022.
Following the SSU’s investigation, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
As the investigation established, the traitor is a resident of Vinnytsia region, a former Soviet military serviceman, who retired from the army in early 1990s.
He was then recruited by the russian military intelligence and put on ‘standby’.
When russia launched its full-scale invasion, the man was contacted remotely by a GRU officer and instructed to conduct reconnaissance and sabotage against Ukraine.
The activated agent kept in touch with his handler through an anonymous Telegram channel and transmitted intelligence in the form of marks on electronic maps and media files.
Based on the evidence collected, the court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
The SSU emphasizes the inevitability of punishment for crimes against Ukraine.
The SSU Vinnytsia Office carried out the investigation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
