Following SSU’s investigation, family couple of russian GRU agents sentenced to 15 years in prison
The SSU has collected irrefutable evidence proving the guilt of another two traitors who passed intelligence to occupiers on location of the Defence Forces near Bakhmut.
Both informants were detained in December 2022 during counter-sabotage efforts in the frontline areas of Donetsk oblast.
Based on the findings of the SSU’s investigation, the court sentenced them to 15 years in prison.
The agents are a married couple from the town of Chasiv Yar. The husband had previously served a sentence for participating in the unlawful armed groups of the ‘DNR’.
Last summer, they remotely contacted the deputy commander of the russian reconnaissance battalion ‘Sparta’, which was involved in warfare on the eastern front.
The family offered their assistance in the war against Ukraine.
Following the enemy’s instructions, they collected information on sites with possible bases of Ukrainian Defence Forces and their movement along the front line.
The spies were primarily looking for depots with the AFU’s weapons and ammunition.
The agents passed the data to the occupiers through a network of russian GRU ‘liaisons’ in the occupied part of Donetsk oblast.
They used secure chats in messenger apps to communicate.
Based on the collected evidence, the court found both accused guilty of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU).
The SSU emphasizes the inevitability of punishment for crimes against Ukraine.
The SSU carried out the investigation under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
