Following SSU’s investigation, traitor sentenced to 15 years in prison for creating GRU intelligence network in Dnipro

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court convicted a resident (coordinator) of an intelligence network of the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (‘the GRU’), which operated in Dnipro, to a real prison term.

The enemy informants adjusted russian missile strikes on the city and then ‘reported’ to the aggressor on their consequences.

To conceal his reconnaissance and sabotage activities, the GRU resident used his status of the head of a local NGO.

However, this did not help - the head and 6 members of the group were detained as a result of a special operation of the SSU Counterintelligence in Dnipro in January this year. Another member was apprehended in August.

Following the SSU’s investigation, the court sentenced the leader of the GRU network group to 15 years in prison.

According to the investigation, the traitor is a local resident, recruited by the aggressor’s military intelligence agency at the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion.

At that time, he was instructed to form an agent network and then was put on standby.

In the spring of 2022, the group began collecting information on location and technical condition of key critical infrastructure facilities in the region.

These included power generation companies that provided electricity to most residential buildings, hospitals and industrial companies in Dnipro.

The resident transmitted the intelligence received from his informants directly to his GRU handler via anonymous messenger apps.

Based on the evidence, the enemy accomplice was found guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).

The SSU emphasises the inevitability of punishment for crimes against Ukraine.

The investigation was conducted by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
