Following SSU’s investigation, 4 militants who fought alongside ‘Wagner’ mercenaries near Bakhmut and Lysychansk sentenced to 15 years in prison
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, another 4 traitors who joined russian occupation troops and fought against Ukraine’s Defence Forces on the eastern front received real prison terms.
Ukrainian defenders captured the militants during the battles near Klishchiyivka and Lysychansk this summer.
Following the SSU’s investigation, the court sentenced them to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The convicted individuals are four residents of the temporarily occupied districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
In the summer and autumn of 2022, they voluntarily arrived at the so-called ‘russian mobilization points’ to join the invaders in the war against Ukraine.
There, the men were enlisted as riflemen to the ‘Prizrak’ battalion and the ‘Cascade’ operational and combat tactical formation of russia’s Southern military district.
After being deployed to the front, they, together with mercenaries of the russian private military company 'Wagner', took part in warfare near Bakhmut and Lysychansk.
In addition to shelling Ukrainian positions, the traitors equipped enemy fortifications.
The court found all four offenders guilty under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason committed under martial law);
- 111-1.7 (collaboration).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Poltava region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
