Following SSU’s investigation, russian agent who prepared breakthrough of enemy reconnaissance groups in Sumy region sentenced to 15 years behind bars

The SSU Counterintelligence continues to systematically bring to prosecution traitors who assisted the aggressor in the war against Ukraine.

In the course of operational and investigative activities, the SSU collected irrefutable evidence proving the guilt of another russian agent, who carried out reconnaissance of a border area in Sumy region.

Together with his accomplice, he collected information on location, number of personnel and weapons of Ukrainian Defence Forces in the region.

Occupiers planned to use the obtained intelligence to prepare the breakthrough of the state border by russian reconnaissance and sabotage groups in the north-eastern direction.

Both enemy agents were detained during a special operation of the SSU Counterintelligence in August this year.

Following the SSU’s investigation, court sentenced one of the offenders to 15 years of imprisonment.

According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a local resident recruited by the FSB after the full-scale invasion began.

Another agent of the russian special service was ‘attached’ to him to collect intelligence.

Together they went around the terrain and took photos and video footage of Ukrainian military facilities.

The obtained materials were sent to the FSB handler as georeferenced media files.

Secrecy measures and secure electronic communication channels were used during communication.

During the searches at the suspects’ residences, the SSU found computer equipment and mobile phones with evidence of communication with the aggressor.

Based on the collected evidence, the court found one of the russian agents guilty under the Articles 28.2 and 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law, with prior conspiracy by a group of persons).

In early December, the second agent was also sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Offices in Sumy and Vinnytsia regions under the supervision of Sumy Region Prosecutor’s Office.
