Following SSU’s investigation, ‘DNR’ militant who tried to join Azov sentenced to 8 years in prison

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court convicted another militant of the terrorist organization ‘DNR’.

Until 2018, he had taken an active part in warfare against Ukrainian troops, but then left for russia. Later, he returned to Ukraine and tried to join one of the units of the Azov Special Purpose Brigade.

There, the man hoped to hide his past and evade justice.

However, the SSU Military Counterintelligence exposed the offender and detained him on his attempt to undergo selection to the Azov.

Given his cooperation with the investigation, the court sentenced him to 8 years in prison.

The former militant is a resident of Donetsk region who joined the russian-controlled ‘DNR people’s militia’ in 2015.

There, he was appointed a grenade launcher operator in one of ‘militia’ units and took part in military operations against the ATO forces near Debaltseve.

The militant also carried out instructions of his ‘commanders’ to build fortifications in the temporarily occupied areas.

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court found him guilty under Article 258-3.1 of the CCU (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization).

The SSU conducted the investigation under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
