Following SSU’s investigations, russian oligarchs’ assets worth UAH 190 bln seized and 4,000 companies sanctioned
The SSU is systemically collecting evidence of the involvement of russian oligarchs and businessmen in financing russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. This step is necessary in order to consider their activities in conjunction with russia’s war crimes in the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
‘Every sponsor of russian terrorism should be in the dock next to putin. Because they are full-fledged accomplices in the crimes. russia is using their money to launch missiles and drones. The SSU will do everything to investigate all business chains that lead to financing of the war and prove them at an international tribunal. Ultimately, russian assets must work for Ukraine’s benefit. Already today, the SSU is actively ‘de-russifying’ businesses that work for the enemy, adhering to a strict line on sanctions, arrest and confiscation,’ the SSU Head Vasyl Maliuk commented.
During 2022-2023, based on the SSU’s investigations, the court seized russian oligarchs’ business assets worth almost UAH 190 bln (USD 5.1 bln). This includes corporate rights and real estate of dozens of companies whose ultimate beneficiaries are russian corporations Rosneft, Rosatom, Gazprom, Rostec, RusAl, GMS Group, Tatneft, banks, etc.
At the SSU’s initiative, economic sanctions have been imposed on over 4,000 russian companies that directly finance the military invasion, help the aggressor state circumvent sanctions, and purchase materials, military equipment, and weapons components from other countries.
According to Vasyl Maliuk, the SSU has compiled a list of russian businesses financing the war and is comprehensively checking each person or entity involved. All findings will be attached to criminal proceedings for consideration by an international tribunal.
The collected data will become evidence in criminal proceedings under Article 27.5 and 110.3 (aiding and abetting the encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability) and Parts 1, 2 of Article 437.1, 437.2 of the CCU (planning, preparation, unleashing and waging of aggressive war).
The SSU emphasizes the inevitability of punishment for crimes against Ukraine.
