Following SSU’s investigation, russian reconnaissance unit commander sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment for shooting 70-year-old civilian
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, russian serviceman, captain Dmitriy Dyogot, involved in mass killings of civilians in Ukraine, has been sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment.
While serving as head of reconnaissance of the 64th separate motorised rifle brigade of the russian armed forces, he took part in the seizure of Bucha district in Kyiv region.
During the temporary occupation of the community, Dyogot commanded his subordinates in punitive actions against local population.
During such ‘raids’, the ruscists abducted and killed people, looted private homes, and the military official in question personally used firearms against civilians.
The investigation established that on 3 March 2022 on one of the streets of Havronshchyna village Dyogot had stopped an unarmed 70-year-old citizen and hit him with a rifle’s butt in the face.
After the victim fell, the ruscist shot the man in the back.
A forensic examination, initiated by the SSU, confirmed that the man’s death had been caused by numerous gunshot wounds and blood loss.
Based on the evidence, the court found Dyogot guilty under the Article 438.2 of the CCU (violation of laws and customs of war) and sentenced him in absentia to life imprisonment.
Efforts are underway to bring the perpetrator to justice.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of Kyiv-Svyatoshynskyi District and Kyiv Region Prosecutor’s Offices.
