Following SSU and SBI’s investigation, notice of suspicion served to Ukrainian MP who went on vacation to Maldives during war

The SSU and the SBI have collected evidence against a current member of the Ukrainian Parliament who, despite the ban for officials to travel abroad during the war, went on holiday to the islands in the Indian Ocean.

Based on the evidence collected, the Prosecutor General served the MP a notice of suspicion under Article 366.1 of the CCU (official forgery).

The person in question is the current Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence.

The investigation established that in mid-July this year the parliamentarian had been staying in a hotel on the island of Ithaafushi in the Maldives.

In order to illegally travel outside Ukraine, he entered false information into official documents regarding the duration of his stay, purpose and country of the ‘business trip’.

According to the investigation, in July this year the MP travelled to a neighbouring European country for three days on a working visit.

There, on 10 July, he remotely opened a sick leave in one of Kyiv’s private medical institutions until 19 July 2023 inclusive. Hence, false information was entered into the electronic healthcare system, as no medical examination was actually carried out.

It was also found out that the MP with his wife and children had stayed in the Maldives, at the Waldorf Hotel Complex, until 22 July.

During the search of the suspect’s home, the SSU found the deputy’s passport with stamps confirming the visit to the Maldives.

The investigation is ongoing.

The SSU and the SBI carried out the investigative actions under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
