Following SSU’s investigation, ideologue of ‘denazification’ of Ukraine sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, Armen Gasparyan, an ideologue of ‘denazification’ of Ukraine, has been convicted to prison.

In 2018, Gasparyan published his book which promotes fictional narratives on the failure of the Ukrainian state and calls on russia’s leadership to launch a military attack on Ukraine.

It was this person who spread the term ‘denazification’ in russia and began to use it in relation to Ukraine.

Based on the findings of the SSU’s investigation, the court found Gasparyan guilty under three Articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • 442.2 (public calls for genocide, production of materials calling for genocide);
  • 109.3 (actions aimed at a forceful change or overthrow of the constitutional order or a seizure of state power);
  • 110.2 (encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability).

The trial was held in a special court proceeding in absentia.

The sentence is 10 years in prison with confiscation of property and will begin after the convict’s arrest.

The special pre-trial investigation was conducted by the SSU Main Investigation Directorate under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
