Following SSU’s investigation, russian agent who scouted positions of Ukrainian artillery on southern direction faces trial

The SSU has completed the investigation and handed over the file to court regarding another agent of russian special services. He collected intelligence on deployment and movement of artillery units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the southern front.

The agent tried to identify the positions of Ukrainian MRLS divisions in the region.

The SSU detained the russian agent during a special operation in Odesa in June this year.

A combat grenade, almost half a kilogram of TNT and an electric detonator, a mobile phone containing texting with the enemy were seized from the suspect.

According to the investigation, the traitor is a local resident who was recruited by the aggressor state after the full-scale invasion started. The man came to the attention of russian special services because he repeatedly expressed his pro-kremlin views.

The enemy instructed the agent to identify and locate military facilities of Ukrainian Defence Forces in Odesa and Mykolaiv oblasts.

He passed the collected data to his moscow handler through a previously agreed anonymous Telegram channel.

The occupiers planned to use the obtained intelligence for massive missile strikes on Ukrainian troops and for sabotage.

However, the SSU promptly exposed and neutralized the attempts of reconnaissance and subversive activity.

SSU investigators notified the perpetrator of suspicion under the Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 (treason under martial law);
  • 263.1 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).

The indictment has been sent to court.

The SSU Office in Odesa Region carried out the operation and investigation under the procedural supervision of Odesa Region Prosecutor’s Office.
